Assignment 2/3 Report

1. Introduction

1.1  Screen recording capture of the application

1.2 Elevator pitch

The app presents language questions and their corresponding products to students in an augmented reality way, with the aim of allowing students who want to learn languages to improve their attention and memory in class.

2. Description of the application

This application provides a language learning test system. Students can think about the spelling of the language in which the question is asked by looking at the product corresponding to the question. In addition, students can also view the corresponding answer to the question at any time by pressing a virtual button. The program also allows the user to zoom in on the corresponding product and adjust the Angle for a better view of the product.

Augmented reality application is widely used in educational scenarios, because AR language education application can provide interactive and immersive experiences compared to boring paper textbooks (Perifanou, M, Economides, AA & Nikou, SA 2023). Therefore, by using this AR language education application students can adjust the size and Angle of the model which means this software will have some interaction with students in the process of learning, so that students can enhance their learning interest and make the learning process more enjoyable for students. In addition, AR is a technology that enhances an environment by adding new information such as 3D, 2D and text so that the technology is mixed with reality to provide users with a near-realistic interactive experience (Mather, C and et.al. 2017). This application can display pictures through 3D models to visualize the learning content, which means that students have the opportunity to observe the products in the real world corresponding to the word in the process of school, thus enriching students' visions.

Therefore, there are many advantages to using AR for language education applications. Firstly, the use of AR technology in language education applications can also cultivate students' autonomous learning ability because AR technology allows students to freely explore the provided models and thus cultivate students' problem-solving ability. Secondly, through the use of AR technology, language education software can also enhance the user's sensory abilities because people prefer to look at 3D models rather than photos. Thirdly, the real-time feedback and communication of AR technology can make users feel the fun of learning and reduce the anxiety in language learning.

3. Interaction Design

3.1 Interaction

Once a student wants to know the name of a product in a foreign language, he can scan the image on his phone. After scanning, he can see a real-world product and several different buttons unfold before his eyes. Instead of looking at a picture, students can browse the product as it really looks.

When students find that the default size of the product cannot meet their observation needs, they can easily slide the button in the column of Scale to change the size of the product. In this way, students can observe more carefully in order to focus their attention on the study. In addition, students can change the Angle of the product by sliding the button on the Rotate column, which means that students can observe the appearance of multiple positions of the product to help them remember the foreign word better. Therefore. Through these two interaction designs, students can observe a product in detail so that they can find the fun of learning in boring learning, and teachers can also improve the interaction in class.

Moreover, after the scanned image there is a virtual button in the bottom half of the image. Students can press this virtual button to see the answer in the foreign language of the product which means that if the student does not press the button then the answer will be hidden and the question will be displayed on the screen. Through this interactive design, students can examine themselves anytime and anywhere instead of memorizing answers.

3.2 Storyboard

1. What is this product’s other language name?

2. Just Scan

3.Real world product is here

4.Changing the product’s size

5. Changing the product’s point of view

6.Pressing to see the result

4. Technical Development

In short, the development of the program is done in Unity and all the scene display and functions are implemented through Vuforia and C# languages in Unity, which means that the presentation of each 3D model is implemented through Vuforia and the interaction inside is in C#.

Each interaction has its own way so the student who wants to participate in the available interactions only needs to complete the corresponding action. For example, to adjust the size and Angle of the model, students only need to swipe the Scale or Rotate on the phone to complete these interactions. In addition, to see the answer, the student just needs to place his hand on the bottom half of the picture to make sure the phone is able to capture the hand so that the question box becomes the answer box.
